United Kingdom, April 2009: The index of business activity

The situation in the industrial sector, the UK is deteriorating thirteenth consecutive month in April, but the rate of fall slowed stronger than economists were expecting. Market participants are beginning to assess the latest data as a sign to approach the bottom of a recession. The index of business activity in the industrial sector of the UK in April rose to 42.9 from 39.5. The index below 50 points indicates the reduction of activity in the sector, above 50 points on the rise. The economist predicted that the index will rise to 40.5. The data for March were revised to 39.1.
