Swiss retail sales index rose to 4.7% on an annualized basis excluding seasonal factors for December, reports the Federal Statistical Office. Value index has outperformed expectations of market participants, as analysts predicted an increase to 1,3%. The previous month, retail sales declined by 0,1% in annual terms.
Recall that the index reflects the actual volume of sales at the retail level and characterizes the level of consumer spending and demand. Growth in retail sales is a positive factor for the development of national economy and leads to the growth rate of national currency.
