The number of unemployed in Britain unexpectedly rose in January

According to the National Statistical Office, the number of applications for unemployment benefits (Claimant count) in the UK rose in January to 23 500. Thus analysts predicted decline of 14 600. In December, the number of new applications fell by 9 600.


Annual index of average earnings based premiums for three months, including December, amounted to 0,8% as well as in the previous month, while the forecast increase to 1,2%.


The unemployment rate, calculated by the methodology of the International Labor Organization (ILO unemployment rate) has not changed compared with the previous reporting period, reaching 7,8% in three months, including December.
