Index Eurozone retail sales fell by 0,2% in August

Index Eurozone retail sales fell by 0,2% in August in monthly terms, said the EU statistical agency Eurostat. However, analysts expect that figure to decline by 0,4%. In July, retail sales in the area of the single European currency also fell by 0,2%.
Note that the rate of total retail sales declined for the reporting period due to lower sales in the non-food sector at 0.6%. Sales of food, alcoholic beverages and tobacco products increased by 0,5%. In annual terms, the index of retail sales decreased by 2.6% in the previous value of -1.8%. Annual index of retail sales forecasts of -2.5%.
